If you have lived in UK local authority care, either with foster carers or in a children’s home (or in Scotland under a home supervision order), we need to know this. We call it being care-experienced.

How to let us know that you are care-experienced

1) Tell us that you are care-experienced in your application

There is a question for care-experienced students in the UCAS application. If you have been in care, please tick the box on your UCAS application.

Please email admissions@christs.cam.ac.uk as soon as possible, and by 4 November at the latest, if you have been in UK authority care and did not tick the box in your UCAS application. Please remember to start your email with the details that we need: your name, subject and UCAS number. Many thanks!

2) Document needed by 4 November

If you are care-experienced please provide a document confirming this. Your document will normally be a brief letter from your school or social worker, including the dates (or approximate dates).

Please save your document as a pdf file with the file name in this specific format:

4 - Subject - FAMILY NAME First name - Care experience - UCAS Personal ID (with no dashes)

Here's a fictional example: for the fictional Matthew Bryly applying for Natural Sciences (Biological) with UCAS Personal ID 1566276477, the file name would be

4 - Natural Sciences (Biological) - BRYLY Matthew - Care experience - 1566276477

Note that there is a space before and after each hyphen and there is a number at the beginning.

Please use the to upload your pdf. Once you press submit form at the end, make sure that you see the screen confirming that the form has been received safely. Thank you for your help in sending your document following our instructions - it helps us to process everything as efficiently and accurately as possible.
