These include details of how to choose, prepare and upload your work (you must do this in a specific way). Please ensure that a cover sheet is included as the first page of each pdf you upload. 
  • Some things are not needed!
    There is no assessment for ASNC applicants. Students applying for ASNC do not need to send a Fee Status Questionnaire during the application process.
  • Online interviews (provisional information)
    The full interview period is 2-18 Dec 2024 and we are currently expecting the interviews for ASNC to take place in the week of 9-13 December. A further update about provisional dates for Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic interviews will be available here in due course. Selected applicants will have two interviews, which will take place online (you will not be asked to travel to Cambridge). Archaeology

    • The essay that you select should be no more than 1500 words long (this is a University-wide requirement for Archaeology essays).

  • Online interviews and Written Assessment (provisional information)
    Applicants selected for interview will have a College assessment and two interviews. Both the assessment and the interviews will take place online (you will not need to travel to Cambridge).
    • The will take place on Wednesday 20 November 2024. We will organise the assessment for you if you are selected for interview - you do not need to register for it. Practical details for sitting the assessment remotely will be sent to you by email if you are selected for interview (you will be able to complete it either at home or at school, if you go to school).
    • The interview period is 2-18 Dec 2024, and we are currently expecting the interviews for Archeology to take place in the week of 9-13 December. Architecture

  • Artwork pdf required (deadline 4 November)
    We ask all applicants for Architecture to upload a 6-page artwork pdf. Please read the Architecture artwork pdf page for details
  • Some documents are not needed!
    Students applying for Architecture do not need to send a Fee Status Questionnaire during the application process.
  • Portfolio required for students invited for interview
    If you are selected for interviews, you will be asked to show a portfolio of recent work in the interviews (normally via screenshare). Your portfolio isn’t expected to be work of an architectural nature (e.g. plans, sections etc). Our Director of Studies will want to see something that will illustrate your interests, experience and ability in the visual and material arts. Normally drawing and painting forms the basis of the portfolio but other media such as sculpture and photography may also be included. It’s usually sufficient for three-dimensional work to be exhibited in photographs. Digital images from a sketchbook with ongoing drawings are extremely helpful and applicants are encouraged to show one at interview. Your work may be in any media (pencil, charcoal, crayon etc.) and should include a variety of subject matter. The work can be material prepared for school-leaving examinations but creative work executed outside formal courses is also welcome.
  • Online interviews and College Assessment (provisional information)
    Applicants selected for interview will have a College assessment (a drawing task) and two interviews. Both the assessment and the interviews will take place online (you will not need to travel to Cambridge).
    • The will take place on Thursday 21 November 2024. We will organise this for you if you are selected for interview - you do not need to register. Information about the assessment for Architecture is available , and please also see our page on College assessments. Practical details for sitting the assessment remotely will be sent to you by email if you are selected for interview (you will be able to complete it at home or at school, if you attend a school).
    • The interview period is 2-18 Dec 2024 and we are currently expecting the interviews for Architecture to take place in the week of 2-6 December, though this is to be confirmed in due course. Selected applicants will have two interviews, which will be on a separate date to the assessment. You will need your portfolio (see above) for both interviews, and to be ready to screenshare / hold things up to the camera as you discuss them. We also advise you to have a copy of your 6-page artwork pdf with you in case you need it for reference. Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (AMES)

    • AMES (only) candidates do not need to upload written work. 
    • If you are applying to combine an AMES language with a European language, please upload ONE piece of work that you have written in the European Language that you plan to study at Cambridge. It should preferably be an essay on literary texts, history or philosophy. If you don't have anything on these topics, any piece of work in the European language you intend to study is acceptable. Please follow the instructions in the written work guidelines carefully. These include details of how to choose, prepare and upload your work (you must do this in a specific way). Please ensure that a cover sheet is included as the first page of the pdf that you upload.

    Applicants selected for interview will have two interviews, and if you are applying for a European Language, you will also have a College Assessment. Both the interviews and the assessment (if relevant) will take place online (you will not need to travel to Cambridge).
    • The interview period is 2-18 Dec 2024, and we are currently expecting interviews for AMES to take place on Mon 9, Tues 10, Wed 11 and possibly Thurs 12 December. Selected applicants will have two online interviews. Please keep an eye on the current applicants page, which includes Stage 4 about receiving an invitation to interview and Stage 5 with information for students selected for interview (more detail will be available nearer the time). If you are applying for a European language, please also read the information about interviews in the Modern and Medieval Languages subject information as one of your interviews will be for your European language and will follow the format of Modern and Medieval Languages interviews.
    • AMES interview candidates who are applying for a European language will also take a online on Thursday 21 November 2024. We will organise the assessment for you if you are selected for interview - you do not need to do anything at the moment.     In order to make a valid application, we require all applicants for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology to take the Engineering and Science Admissions Test (ESAT) on 15 or 16 October.     • All applicants selected for interview will have a . The assessments are different for the three-year course and the four-year course. We will organise the relevant assessment for you if you are selected for interview - you do not need to register.
      • Information about the assessment for 3-year Classics is available , and please also see our page on College assessments. Practical details about the assessment will be sent to you by email if you are selected for interview. Note that the assessment for 3-year Classics forms part of one of your online interviews (which will be in a longer slot than normal) rather than being a written assessment.
      • Information about the assessment for 4-year Classics is also available . It will be scheduled like an interview (if you are invited for interview you will have an individual time, though note that this is likely be on a different date to your other interviews). Please also see our page on College assessments. Practical details for the assessment will be sent to you by email if you are selected for interview.
    • The interview period is 2-18 Dec 2024, and the Classics interviews and College assessments are due to take place on Monday 9 - Thursday 12 December, though it is possible that some of the 4-year assessments could be the following week if more capacity is needed. Selected 3-year applicants will have two interviews, one of which will be a longer interview as it will include your assessment. Selected 4-year candidates will have two interviews and a separate assessment. It is important that you read the pre-interview study page beforehand (part of the Stage 5 information, once available), as that is where the detail will be of how the remote pre-interview study works. We will organise the relevant assessment for you if you are selected for interview - you do not need to register. Practical details for sitting the assessment remotely will be sent to you by email if you are selected for interview (you will be able to complete it at home or at school, if you attend a school). You will then discuss the exercises in the subsequent interview. The exercises you are given will be comparable to those set in the Linguistics assessment sat by candidates at other Colleges, so the may be helpful even though there is no assessment for ÍõÖÐÍõÁùºÏ²ÊÌØÂë candidates. It is important that you read the pre-interview study page beforehand (part of the Stage 5 information, once available), as that is where the detail will be of how remote pre-interview study works.

    The University has a free online to help all mathematics applicants develop their advanced problem-solving skills in preparation for sitting STEP. The programme consists of online modules for individual self study, published weekly. The programme is open to everyone, and we hope it will be particularly useful if your school cannot offer much support for STEP preparation.       • If you are applying for a modern European language and a Classical language and your modern European language is to be studied ab initio, you will only have a Classics College Assessment (see Classics for details of the Classics College Assessment). Your suitability to study the ab initio language will be assessed in your interview but you will not sit the MML Assessment.

Natural Sciences (Biological)

  • Admissions Test registration required (deadline 16 September)
    In order to make a valid application, we require all applicants for Natural Sciences (Biological) to take the Engineering and Science Admissions Test (ESAT) on 15 or 16 October. For further information please see the and the , including preparation materials. The exam board is Pearson and you will receive the approximately six weeks after the test date. 
  • Communications
    Please could you ensure that if you're asked to give your subject (e.g. at the beginning of emails, or when sending documents) you always write Natural Sciences (Biological) rather than just Natural Sciences. Many thanks - this helps us a lot!

    The interview period is 2-18 Dec 2024, and we are currently expecting to interview for Natural Sciences (Biological) in the week of 9-13 December and possibly 16-18 December. An update about dates for Natural Sciences (Biological) interviews will be available here in due course. Selected applicants will have two interviews, which will take place online (you will not be asked to travel to Cambridge). The interview team will be able to assess students with all interests within the course and will have read your application, so please don't worry - they will know what subjects you are taking and any particular interests you have expressed in your application. Equally, though, note that you could be asked questions on any areas of maths/science - the material will not be limited to topics you have expressed an interest in. Please keep an eye on the current applicants page, which includes Stage 4, about receiving an invitation to interview, and Stage 5, with information for students selected for interview (more details will be available nearer the time).

    We do not require applicants for Philosophy to send written work, as we do for some of the other subjects. You also do not need to send a Fee Status Questionnaire during the application process. 
  • Online interviews and Written Assessment (provisional information)
    The interview period is 2-18 Dec 2024, and we are currently expecting the interviews for Philosophy to take place in the week of 9-13 December. A further update about dates for Philosophy interviews will be available here in due course. Selected applicants will have a College admissions assessment and two interviews. Both the assessment and the interviews will take place online (you will not need to travel to Cambridge).
    • The date is currently to be confirmed - we will update this information once the date is available. We will organise the assessment for you if you are selected for interview - you do not need to register. Information about the assessment for Philosophy is available , and please also see our page on College assessments, once the detail is available for Philosophy. Practical details for sitting the assessment remotely will be sent to you by email if you are selected for interview.

Theology, Religion and Philosophy of Religion

    Please upload TWO examples of essays that you feel accurately reflect your abilities and interests. Please follow the instructions in the written work guidelines carefully. These include details of how to choose, prepare and upload your work (you must do this in a specific way). Please ensure that a cover sheet is included as the first page of each pdf that you send. 
  • Some documents are not needed! 
    Students applying for Theology, Religion and Philosophy of Religion do not need to send a Fee Status Questionnaire during the application process. There is no College assessment for Theology at ÍõÖÐÍõÁùºÏ²ÊÌØÂë.
