Experience ÍõÖÐÍõÁùºÏ²ÊÌØÂë Summer School

The summer school will take place at ÍõÖÐÍõÁùºÏ²ÊÌØÂë College, Cambridge from 18 to 21 August 2024. The event programme will be circulated to students selected to attend at the beginning of August, including a survey to allocate academic sessions.

Updates!

16 Aug | 22:37 Emails sent confirming session allocations! Pre-reading has also been circulated for: Urban Regeneration, Law with James Pinder, and the Architects.

10:54 - email to those who were happy to be put in touch with others.

09:56 - email with packing and other guidance, plus college map!

9 Aug | Email sent at 16:55 containing schedule outline and information about academic sessions. Please complete the survey via the link in email to let us know your preferred sessions by Monday 12 Aug. Cheers!

5 Aug | No updates just yet, but to keep you in the loop: we're currently finalising information from our academic session leaders about their content and if any sessions require previous knowledge from A-Level/IB. Once ready, we'll send you an outline of the timetable and programme, including the academic sessions. You will then be able to let us know your preferred combination of sessions, and we'll try to give everyone a sensible combination that best matches preferences as far as we can!

With this, we will also send out a packing list (i.e. a sensible idea of what you do/don't need to bring). Thanks for your patience! In the meantime, don't forget to do your travel reimbursements - thanks to those who've started to do so. :)

29 Jul 13:33 | Email sent re: how to claim travel reimbursement.

29 Jul | Thank you everyone who has completed their forms! We have emailed anyone we're missing a form from - so if you don't have an email, you're all good.

We haven't sent anything else out yet, and we will write here when we do send things (and what) so you will know what you have/haven't missed. We will soon be sending information about claiming reimbursements, the timetable, and academic sessions.

PS if you like the way we work with a participants page and current updates, this is very similar to how we run the admissions process at ÍõÖÐÍõÁùºÏ²ÊÌØÂë to keep you in the loop all the way through! :)

Travelling to Cambridge

It is your responsibility to organise your travel to and from Cambridge.

We have advice on getting to us via various forms of transport on our How to Get to ÍõÖÐÍõÁùºÏ²ÊÌØÂë page. We recommend travel via public transport where possible.

What costs are covered?

The event is free - including meals and accommodation. Travel costs will be covered on a reimbursement basis. Travel costs are only covered for the selected participant. Tickets/costs for parents/carers or other supporters who choose to accompany you to and from Cambridge are not covered.

We will cover: one standard class travel return train ticket to and from your nearest train station; OR one return standard class travel return journey via coach (e.g. National Express); OR one return car trip (fuel contribution). Northern Irish students will also receive a contribution toward flight costs. It is fine to e.g. travel by train one way and coach the other way.

Travelling by train: please be sensible about the ticket you are buying. Double check the costs of super-off peak, off-peak returns over anytime returns (which are significantly more expensive and usually not necessary to purchase). Also consider purchasing a railcard beforehand - it is £30 for a 12-month pass, and a 16-17 saver gets you 50% off fares. a 16-25 railcard gets you a third off. Please email us if you think you need/want advice for your journey!

If purchasing tickets and awaiting reimbursement will cause financial difficulties or similar, please contact us directly as we can support with purchasing tickets on your behalf.

Travel costs are covered with thanks to a grant from the Isaac Newton Trust Widening Participation and Induction Fund.
